Lilly Karl - Interdisciplinary Artist

Lilly Karl is an artist, poet, and children's author. Originally from Southern California, she just recently finished her MFA at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Lilly left San Francisco spring of 2012 to travel the world for 1 year while she works on a new endeavor, making tapestries and light installations based on the city she last resided in. Currently she working from various cities in Europe, moving to Kilpisjarvi, Finland in January, then Rome, Venice, Croatia, and Berlin to follow.
Lilly finds inspiration in the play-based, imaginative world of children, focusing on how they express sincere emotion by creating smaller worlds through make-believe, fort building, and hiding places.
Prior to the MFA program, Lilly studied psychology and child development at California State University of Los Angeles. She also spent a year traveling in the Middle East, Europe, and China, exploring their history and culture through the lens of design.
